Wharfe Tree Services provide professional tree pruning and maintenance services to both domestic and commercial clients. We are committed to delivering high standards of workmanship across all aspects of tree care. Our team is fully qualified and carries out all pruning operations in accordance with British Standard BS 3998:2010 (Tree Work – Recommendations), ensuring work is completed safely, responsibly and in line with current arboricultural best practice.
Our pruning and maintenance services include:
Crown lifting involves the careful removal of the lower branches of a tree to increase clearance beneath the canopy. This is commonly undertaken to allow safe access for pedestrians and vehicles, improve visibility on roads or driveways, and provide clearance from buildings and pathways.
When carried out correctly, crown lifting maintains the natural shape and balance of the tree. We take care to avoid excessive removal and ensure the canopy remains well-proportioned, allowing the tree to continue developing in a healthy and sustainable manner.
Crown reduction is the selective pruning of the outer canopy to reduce the overall height or spread of a tree. This may be necessary to lessen wind loading on structurally weak limbs, reduce encroachment towards buildings or neighbouring properties, or manage overall size while retaining the tree’s natural form.
Our aim is to leave a strong framework of healthy branches capable of producing a full canopy in the following growing season. Pruning cuts are kept as small as possible and are typically limited in diameter unless there is a sound arboricultural reason to do otherwise.
Where trees are located within Conservation Areas or are protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), we can liaise directly with the local authority on your behalf to secure the necessary permissions and ensure all works are compliant with regulations.
Crown thinning involves the selective removal of smaller branches throughout the canopy to reduce density and overall weight. This process improves light penetration and air movement through the crown while maintaining the tree’s overall size and natural shape.
Thinning can help reduce wind resistance and promote balanced growth. Where structural load reduction on specific limbs is required, we may recommend crown reduction as a more suitable alternative following a site assessment.
Deadwood removal involves the safe removal of branches that are dead, dying or affected by disease. This form of ongoing maintenance is particularly important in areas with pedestrian or vehicle traffic, helping to reduce potential hazards while maintaining the health, safety and appearance of the tree.
